Important instruction for Internet Explorer Users:

During your use of this course, you will be asked to open a number of Microsoft Excel® workbooks. When an Excel file is opened from a web page hyperlink, Internet Explorer normally opens it in its own window, instead of invoking Microsoft Excel. This is true for other Microsoft Office documents too (Microsoft Word® and PowerPoint®  documents).

This needs to be changed by adjusting settings on your computer. The procedure is different for different versions of Microsoft Windows. Choose the Windows version which you use from the links below. 

Microsoft Windows 95/98/Windows NT

Windows 2000/XP

Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT

To configure Internet Explorer to open Office files in the appropriate Office program on a computer that is running Windows 95 or Windows 98 or Windows NT:
  1. Double-click My Computer.

  2. On the View menu, click Options (or Folder Options).

  3. Click the File Types tab. A list of file types will come up:


  1. In the Registered file types list, click the Microsoft Excel Worksheet file type, and then click Edit

  2. In the Edit dialog box, make sure the "Browse in same window" box is not checked.

  3. Click OK.

Windows 2000/XP:

  1. Double-click My Computer.

  2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.

  3. Click the File Types tab. A list of file types will come up:

               

  1. In the Registered file types list, click the Microsoft Excel Worksheet file type, and then click Advanced.

  2. In the Advanced dialog box, make sure the "Browse in same window" box is not checked.

  3. Click OK.
